With a career of over twenty years in the built environment and technology in Europe, North America and Asia, Mikele is a recognised leader in urban innovation. Mikele is the founder of Urban Living Futures Inc and creator of the UPPlift Urban Pilot Platform, matching smart city innovators with technical and business resources and opportunities to deploy their solutions and gain proof of concept with global cities and asset owners/managers. She is also an advisor and mentor to smart city start-ups, and an industry expert assessor for SME funding. Mikele established and led a pioneering program at Canary Wharf – Cognicity, an urban innovation accelerator, attracting novel smart city technologies from around the world to learn how to make their solutions interoperable and pilot them within a high-profile urban district. The program initiated a smart city technology ecosystem in the district. Mikele helped to establish the UK government’s centres of excellence: the Future Cities and Energy Systems Catapults. She has also been a consultant to the Greater London Authority (GLA), developing a commercial building energy retrofit programme and to the Smart Cities Expo World Congress. Previously, Mikele led the Cities sector in General Electric’s Global Growth & Operations team, developing commercial models for sustainable energy solutions for cities and urban developments. Prior to joining GE, Mikele led the UK introduction of Building Information Modelling services, promoting collaboration and efficiency in design, construction and lifecycle building portfolio management. Earlier in her career, as an urban planner, Mikele worked on property and infrastructure masterplans, sustainable development studies and socio-economic impact assessments for new urban areas, regeneration areas and urban infrastructure systems in Asia, Europe and North America.
